“Kitty Sandwich” Thursday – Healthy School Lunches

We all strive to get our kids to eat fresh healthy lunches.  Unfortunately it’s not always easy.  I’ve got three little ones and each has their unique likes and dislikes.  I try to be creative and mix up the offerings so the kids don’t get bored. It’s tricky getting them to eat what you pack them.

Today when my 4-year-old asked what I packed for her lunch I told her “I made you a kitty sandwich!”  She laughed and smirked “you are joking with me”.  Today when she opens her lunch box won’t she be surprised there is actually a kitty sandwich in there.

The little spork I packed is from the “Take & Toss” by First Years.  The cost is $2.89 for 16 pieces of silverware so I don’t feel bad when one gets thrown away.  They also fit great in the lunch box!  Speaking of supplies you can fid links to all the items I used to pack this lunch at the bottom of the post.  I find the Easy Lunch Box containers fit great in Wildkin Lunchboxes and pretty much any rectangle standard soft sized lunch box.  I even put them in my Planet Box lunch totes sometimes.

I try to purchase organic, non-gmo products if available.    I’m not always able to find organic everything so some special treats like the freeze dried strawberries and Yogurt Star cookies I allow in moderation.

This is what I packed today:

  • nitrate free ham and organic provolone cheese sandwich on Rudi’s Organic Whole Wheat Bread
  • Organic shredded carrots and cucumbers
  • Organic raisins and freeze dried strawberries (Trade Joe’s brand)
  • Trader Joe’s Yogurt Star Cookies (not organic)
  • Horizon Organic Yogurt sweetened with a little honey
